Laura Williamson

Message from the President

March 11, 2014

Dear LMU Community:

It is with great sadness that I tell you of the passing of Laura D. Williamson, an alumna who served on our Board of Trustees. Laura passed away March 7, after a long illness, at the age of 59.

Laura was a retired executive from Deutsche Bank, and had an impressive career in banking at Citicorp, where she held many overseas posts.

She was a tireless contributor to the Board of Trustees, which she joined in 2007, and to the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts Advisory Board, where she was a passionate supporter and advocate of a liberal arts education. Laura served on many committees, including the Finance Committee.

Among Laura’s lasting legacies at the university is the Heritage Edition of the illuminated St. John’s Bible, which came to LMU through a gift from her and her husband, Steve.

Laura earned her B.A. in English in 1974, an M.A. in history from Georgetown University, as well as completed a master’s program in international relations at Yale University.

In lieu of flowers, her family has requested that donations be made in memory of Laura DeMyer Williamson to the Bellarmine College Student Scholarship Fund. Donations should be made payable to Loyola Marymount University and sent to Alma Vorst, Development Services, Loyola Marymount University, University Hall Suite 2800, Los Angeles, CA 90045-2659.

There will be a memorial Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 411 E. 68th Street, New York, NY 10065 at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, which would have been Laura’s 60th birthday.

Please keep Laura, Steve, and their family in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

David W. Burcham
President
